I've got the e-book, I'm interested in finding my own Hero. C'ést la vie.To the story. One of our heroes, another maître d'armes. This adventure is with the luscious Caid O'Neill along with the other men of steel. Sorry Superman, these men of steel carry their weapons riding on their hips. It takes a man that is comfortable in his own skin to carry off not only those weapons but the clothing of the day.
I used to watch the movies in this genré and they walked around with a bounce in their step, those cloaks flapping around their legs. The feathers in the hats bounced or whooshed around as they moved.
Jennifer Blake brings all of those memories back in this series.
Besides the ability to wisk the reader away she creates a work of realism in a time that actually was.
Where men were men. Women were strong and if not as much, they were still believable.
One of the many parts of her works is the caring for one another that comes through and it doesn't diminish the person, doesn't make them seem weak.
There aren't any negatives in these (or any other)books.
I highly, hugely recommend this MASTERS At ARMS series.

Jennifer Blake has that rare talent of writing a historical novel that is sensual and romantic. The storyline here is another original plot worth multiple characters of interest.
I am always amazed that woman in the last several centuries are treated as children while used as brood mares and property. This story is a good example of this. Along with that, is the series itself set in mid 1800's New Orleans where life is one of honor and show! Very interesting and easy to read as well as highly entertaining. Definite must read for historical romance novel lovers.
Blake's later writings are decidedly mediocre compared to her earlier historical romances. She's always written in long passages describing the locale, customs, food, housing, furnishings, clothing but these descriptions in her later books just come across as old and tired. Themes like voodoo and Mardi Gras are recycled from other books. There's none of the scope of her earlier books. In her attempt to update her writing, she has left out the imagery of her older works. Her heroines have always been on the TSTL side and Lisette in this story is no exception. She comes across as a silly reckless child, thoughtless, like a child released into a candy store when parents turned their heads. Defiant for defiance's sake, irresponsible, immature and self righteous. Expecting hero whom she coerced into "protecting" her to save her from escapades, yet refusing to listen to his advice. Generally, the characters are not well developed.
I loved this story. The characters are fantastic and I really enjoyed this story and I think Jennifer did a masterful job with building the romance and introducing and forshadowing the stories of her next heros. I have to say it was refreshing that it wasn't instant sexual gratification, but a building of the two together. Caid being so honorable that I could not help but love him and Lisette so indepenant and head strong. It was brilliant. I found the anticipation for when the characters would come together exciting. And I fell in love with her Masters at arms. I'm so looking forward to the other men's story and meeting some more in her next works. I just adored these characters.
I read some of the other reviews that weren't so nice. I'm can't imagine how it was boring. Everything was so vibrant and alive. I found this very refreshing and I couldn't get enough. Frankly I'm tired of the jumping right into a sexual relationship type stories that they are getting mundane and typical. This had a plot, motives and forshadowing of this story and of future stories to come. I couldn't have been happier or more impressed with the writing. The style is very romatnic and beautiful and goes beautifully with the time period.
I only wish I didn't have to wait another year for the next story! That's my biggest gripe, but I'll be patient I have no choice. )

Great book! Well written and a good story line. This is a great author and I've enjoyed everything I've read by her.
Loved the whole series. Highly recommend them all. Couldn't put them down. Great romances with history and wonderful characters both men and women.
