Reading this book has been a wonderful experience for me. Not only because it is very well written, which it is, but because Thomas Homer Johnson was my first cousin. His mother and my mother were sisters. Because of a stupid rift that took place in our family, I hadn't seen Tom for 30 years when he died. We did have a lengthy conversation on the phone about a year before he died, and it was then that I realized how I had missed him. With this book I feel like I'm finally able to catch up on some of those lost years. Growing up we lived far apart but saw each other every summer and sometimes Christmas. The book has many letters Tom wrote. I like the way the letters are printed in cursive writing. The book also has a lot of great photos taken from various stages of Tom's life. Some of them, the earlier ones, I have. I am so glad to be able to see the later ones. This would be an inspiring story for anyone to read but for me it is much more.
